There are literally thousands of personal care products on the market and it is getting pretty hard to pick the right one for your skin. Moisturizers, hair care products, shaving creams, cosmetics and other products are present on every shelf in markets. If you check the label, you’ll see that they contain a variety of ingredients which are difficult to read or spell, although there is one we all recognize – fragrance.
The skin is the largest organ in the body which absorbs everything we put on it – if you put it on your skin, you might have well eaten it, and Dihydroxypropyltrimonium chloride doesn’t sound like something you’d put in your mouth.
Some of the designer named personal care products are pretty expensive but contain the same chemicals as less expensive brands. They have a different smell of course, but the chemicals they contain won’t do our health any favors. According to studies, most of the chemicals in popular personal care products have been related to respiratory problems, cancer, and allergies, which is why they need to be avoided.
Like any other organ, the skin needs to be taken care of in order to look good, and there are plenty of natural ingredients which can improve its quality. Take coconut oil for example – it has antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties and is generally great for your skin. When used topically, coconut oil can treat dermatitis or eczema and will kill various fungi and bacteria as well. Besides this, this oil is the perfect hydrating agent for your skin and is also cheaper than commercial products.
Personal care products based on coconut oil can be easily prepared at home and are a great replacement for the chemical-laden products you can find in stores. Below you can see 5 simple coconut oil-based recipes which can be prepared in just a few minutes and will make you look 10 years younger.
Cellulite is a big problem for many women and is pretty hard to get rid of. The fat build up below the skin can make it lumpy and unpleasant, and the expensive creams present on the market don’t do anything about it. Luckily, there is a homemade cream which can help. Grapefruit essential oil can boost metabolism and burn fat. Beeswax is an emollient, while rosemary oil boosts the metabolism as well and reduces inflammation and oxidative stress. Cypress oil massages can reduce the amount of subcutaneous fat, while witch hazel is great against skin inflammation. Finally, juniper oil has been found to contain antioxidants that can limit the production of fat. Here’s how to prepare the cream:
- ¾ cup of coconut oil
- 30 drops of grapefruit essential oil
- 30 drops of cypress oil
- 10 drops of rosemary essential oil
- 10 drops of juniper oil
- 2 tablespoons of beeswax
- 3 tablespoons of witch hazel
Mix the essential oils and witch hazel first, then melt the beeswax on low heat and add the coconut oil slowly. Once the mixture is liquid, mix everything together and use it on your cellulite every day.
Tea tree oil is a powerful antibacterial agent that works great for acne and other skin problems. It contains vitamin E, an antioxidant that can be easily absorbed into the skin. The oil is, however, sensitive to sunlight, which is why it’s best to use it in a night cream.
- ¼ teaspoon of tea tree oil
- ½ teaspoon of vitamin E oil
- A cup of coconut oil
Whip the coconut oil first, then add the tea tree and vitamin E oil until everything’s combined. Apply the cream on your face before going to bed and your skin will look much better soon.
